MONIQUE LYNCH

SWTC Director / Head Coach

I grew up in Temora in regional NSW. I started playing tennis at the age of 8 and my talent and potential was noticed almost immediately. At 10 years I was chosen to train at Tennis NSW State Squad with NSW’s best Juniors, and by the time I was 12 my parents were doing the 4.5hour drive twice a week. I started playing local Junior tournaments in the Riverina area, before playing AMT and moving onto National tournaments around Australia.

When I was 15 I was chosen to be a NSWIS (NSW institute of Sport) athlete and I made the big step of relocating to Cronulla so I could be closer to the best coaches and facilities to further my tennis career. I was lucky enough to be coached by some of the best coaches in Australia including Wally Masur, Peter Tramacchi, Graeme Brimblecombe, Clint Newcomb, Nicole Arendt, Ryan Henry and Akos Pandurics. When I was 15 I travelled Europe for 3 months playing ITF & WTA tournaments. I had many great results including qualifying at Australian Challenger events and beating some of Australia’s best. After having a taste for playing on the WTA circuit I travelled Europe again for 2 months the following year having even better results than the year before. While playing in Europe I was in my best form. I acheived my career high ranking of WTA singles 1120, doubles 577, ITF 552 and I was number 6 in Australia. Unfortunately that was when I tore the cartilage in my left knee and had to come home for treatment. After having a few months off I came back onto the tour but her knee was never the same. After another year of painful tennis she seeked advice and a MRI showed a protrusion on her left knee cap, she was told it was something she would have to learn how to manage, also a career ending injury.

Unfortunately my dream was over but tennis was still my passion so I went into coaching. I coached at Tennis NSW with the State Squads for 2 years and became Tennis Australia qualified with the Junior Development coaching accreditation. I then did a little bit of coaching in our local area with Ryan but our real goal was to own our own tennis centre, so when the opportunity to take over SWTC came our way we jumped at it. My goal is to run a tennis centre with a happy, friendly and competitive environment where we bring out the best in our players. I would love to produce and coach a professional tennis player.
